Women in 19th century Vankleek Hill: contributors
to their local economy
While we acknowledge that a suffragette movement existed in the
19th century, we tend to identify working women - be they single,
married, with or without children - a phenomenon of the 20th century,
when in fact women were participating as fully as possible under
the political repression of the day present within the economic
lives of their families and communities. by Michelle Landriault

Vankleek Hill Business History
All these things, the railway, electricity, business and industry,
were interdependent on each other while stimulating the other's growth
and in turn stimulating the growth of Vankleek Hill itself, leading
to the desire for an identity separate from the Township of West Hawkesbury,
leading to Incorporation. by Leo Valiquette |
