Fundraising Campaign – Donation Levels

Our goal is to create a museum, archives & visitor centre in the McCuaig, Cheney General Store at 95 Main Street East . This heritage building (c.1835) was purchased by the Historical Society, and title turned over to Champlain Township for public safekeeping. The $25,000 purchase costs were raised in the local community.

Building renovations are estimated at $75,000. Through donations, raffles, events, and souvenir sales our current goal to effectively begin work is $20,000. The Historical Society bank accounts currently (Summer 2002) hold $10,000.

Founders: A one-time category of donors open to all who make a $500 contribution. The goal is to have 40 Founders. To date there are 14 Founders.

Builders: Builders can make cash donations of $250 or commit to 25 hours of volunteer work. This is a popular category with wide participation. Volunteer work can be in the form of repairs, construction, painting and beautifying. There are also projects that require volunteers: interviewing for oral histories, newspaper clipping and scrapbook organizing, creating or obtaining items for raffles, creating fundraising events... almost anything that you can do to help.

Boosters
: This category recognizes donations of $25 and up.

Membership 2002: $5

Making a Pledge to History

Vankleek Hill and District Historical Society President Michelle Landriault stands with Dwight Proudfoot in front of the McCuaig-Cheney building at 95 Main Street East in Vankleek Hill. The historical society is in the process of collecting $500 founder pledges for the museum, archives and visitor information centre which will be located in the building in the background; the building was the first brick structure built in Vankleek Hill and was at one time a store. Proudfoot is one of the first people to make a $500 pledge.
