A Pictorial Tour of Vankleek Hill

This is our area for photographic tours of the area. We look forward to individuals, classes or organizations contributing descriptions and photographs to present a tour.

Murals

This mural was designed and executed by Susan Jephcott, local well known artist with the help of some enthusastic friends. The idea of a mural was born one night in August of 1995 and put into action a week or so later when Jephcott and Beverly McOuat, manager of Farmer Supply Company, stood looking at the metal wall of the store and its sweeping view down across the 34 and the lower Laurentians. They thought why not add another mural to the Vankleek Hill collection and have a lot of fun doing it. It would be a celebration of the "Hill" and its artistic community. Jephcott decided that a theme of animals in a field and that everyone could share in painting some of the images.
The title "Bestiary" was chosen as the fantasy concerned animals real and fantastic which appeared spontaneously one after another. In this mural there are no rules of size or proportion... it is a dream world.
Fifteen people in all painted together for this cooperative effort that took four or five weeks to accomplish. The participants who helped are as follows: Freida Beauregarde, Sue Beauregarde, Thomus Bigus, John Clouston, Sarah Evett, Eva Hoedeman, Lionel Kerwood, Val kimpton, Eunnice Macaulay, Beverly McOuat, Thomas Monahan, Paul Parent, Manon Roy, Fred Torak, Chris Williams.
